| Youth still have optimistic aspirations Murali Gopalan, Senior Vice President, UST Global
Aspirations is a will to succeed. Aspirations urges you to dream. Aspirations is a cherished desire. At the moment, Young India is bombarded with messages of terrorism to India’s booming economic growth to global warming. Miraculously the youth still have optimistic aspirations. These aspirations are heavily influenced by the internet in a way that is impossible for the older generation to understand: To start from educational system, a keener expectation from for skills that better prepare the youth for life. We see them discard University prescribed courses and embrace learning experiences that add true value to their personal and professional life. In addition, Access to (a) cheap travel to the west and (b) the internet community have built expectations of higher standards of living. They have higher standards for the country’s infrastructure, and options for (a) personal transport (b) leisure (c) work and (d) personal life. The Young India expect work that truly engages the mind. Such work is the secret of success of India’s IT industry, driven by India’s youth. The youth is embracing entrepreneurship that taps into their urge for creativity and innovation when work does not match this expectation. Whether it is smart farming or rocket science, the stigma and fear of entrepreneurship has gone. Believe it or not, a deeper caring for the environment is apparent among the youth, which translates into an aspiration for a greener and sustainable planet. |
