Success in a rapidly changing world now days is defined by the ability to acquire knowledge in a ceaseless manner. Quality of knowledge is the essential ingredient to excellence. Knowledge is also the main tool for developing our skills to the fullest possible extent. This is especially relevant in societies like Kerala, largely depending upon human resources as the main catalyst for wealth creation. For Kerala to succeed in 21 century, we need to enhance the skills of our people, develop world class academic institutions and create the right environment to apply knowledge and skill to develop a sustainable economy.

Fortunately, majority of the new generation in the state is endowed with the spirit of innovation essential to achieve excellence in all walks of life. It may not be an exaggeration to say that they dare to dream and do things differently. Well, that is great. The spirit of innovation may not please the old-guard but is essential to find new solutions, new models and foster more harmonious relationship with our environment and fellow beings.

The challenge before policy makers and civil society in the state is to create the right facilities and environment to inculcate the pursuit of knowledge and spirit of innovation to all sections of the society. We need to harness ideas from all available resources, use professionals and develop systems and practices that will help to unlock the talent of the whole society. We cannot afford to leave any sections of the society behind on this great journey. Because, history teaches that islands of excellence surrounded by swathes of ignorance is not a sustainable model.
