Dubai: Saudi Arabia has more than doubled its gold holdings to 322.9 tonnes compared to that in the first quarter of 2008, the World Gold Council has said. The Arab nation’s gold reserves stood at 143 tonnes in the first quarter of 2008. The latest statistics were published by the International Monetary Fund.....

Dubai: The Council of Ministers in Saudi Arabia has urged the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) to ban smoking at all airports and their facilities in the Kingdom. The council also advised GACA to impose a fine of 200 Saudi riyals on people who violate the new regulations.

Abu Dhabi:  In an effort to prevent accidents in Abu Dhabi, police have seized 12,605 faulty vehicles.

Dubai: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has donated $2 million to Unesco’s "Intangible Cultural Heritage" programme, as part of global efforts to help developing countries preserve their culture.

Boston: A team led by an Indian-origin professor has devised a method of using mobile phones for conducting eye tests, a technique it hopes will be useful in places lacking hi-tech eye equipment.
