A Leopard's Day Out
Salil Bera of THE WEEK won a host of awards for his photograph of a male leopard attacking a forest official near Limbu village, (Siliguri) close to the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary, on July 19, 2011. Six people were injured as the leopard went on a rampage. Though the forest officials were able to cage the animal, it succumbed to injuries. Salil’s photo won the following honours-Prize in news photography category, WAN-IFRA Asian Media Awards 2012, BaliAward in spot news singles category, World Press Photo foundation, Amsterdam Best Photojournalist (spot news), On Asia Photo Awards, Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand, Bangkok2011 National Photo Award for best professional photographer, Photo Division, Govt of IndiaBest News Photography prize, Candid Communications West Bengal Journalism AwardsShortlisted for the Sony World Photography Award (professional category), LondonNominated for the Prix Pictet Photography Prize, London.Seen here are the photographs in the order of the incident’s sequence.
