Kalady  is a town located between Angamaly and Perumbavoor, east of the Periyar river, near to Malayattoor in Ernakulam district of Kerala,

not far from Cochin International Airport. It is notable as the birthplace of 9th century Indian philosopher Adi Shankara.Kalady came to prominence only after its rediscovery in the late 19th century by the then Shankaracharya of Sringeri and the subsequent consecration of an Adi Shankara temple in 1910. The famous Sanskrit University is situated in this town.

കാലടി കേരളത്തിലെ എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിൽ മലയാറ്റൂരിനടുത്ത് പെരിയാർ നദിക്ക് കിഴക്ക് അങ്കമാലിക്കും പെരുമ്പാവൂരിനും ഇടയിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു പട്ടണമാണ് കാലടി. കൊച്ചി അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര വിമാനത്താവളത്തിൽ നിന്ന് അധികം അകലെയല്ല. 9-ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിലെ ഇന്ത്യൻ തത്ത്വചിന്തകനായ ആദിശങ്കരന്റെ ജന്മസ്ഥലം എന്ന നിലയിൽ ഇത് ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്. പത്തൊൻപതാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ അവസാനത്തിൽ അന്നത്തെ ശൃംഗേരിയിലെ ശങ്കരാചാര്യൻ വീണ്ടും കണ്ടെത്തുകയും 1910-ൽ ആദിശങ്കര ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്‍റെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തതിന് ശേഷമാണ് കാലടിക്ക് പ്രാധാന്യം ലഭിച്ചത്.
