Koyilandy is formerly known as Panthalayani Kollam. The historical town is located right in the middle of the coast of Kozhikode district, between Kozhikode (Calicut) and Vadakara (Badagara).

പന്തലായിനി കൊല്ലം എന്നായിരുന്നു കൊയ് ലാണ്ടിയുടെ ആദ്യപേര്. കൊയ് ലാണ്ടി കോഴിക്കോട് ജില്ലയുടെ മധ്യഭാഗത്തായി വടകരയ്ക്കും കോഴിക്കോടിനും ഇടയ്ക്കായി സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രദേശമാണ്. കോഴിക്കോട് ജില്ലയിലെ ഒരു പ്രധാന പട്ടണവും താലൂക്ക് ആസ്ഥാനവുമാണ്‌ കൊയിലാണ്ടി.
